Getting ready for winter

This time of the year our female hormones start to react to our immune system so we really need to take care of our body as a whole.

If our immune system is low our whole body starts to breakdown. We can get colds and feel very lethargic with no energy to enjoy life. There is also a high chance of getting flu or catching a cold virus.

So how do our hormones become affected?

First of all, the weather has a lot to do with aches and pains we feel in the winter, but also how we feel within ourselves, personally, if we feel depressed or sad then our hormones will be affected.

It is so important to keep busy and keep happy at this time of the year. If we have a low immune system we will also catch cold viruses and flu.

Sleep is vital for our wellbeing ladies, try to get to bed early at least 5 nights a week. A herb tea before bed is relaxing and a few drops of lavender oil on your pillowcase will relax you and help you drift off into a deep sleep.

Because it’s raining doesn’t mean it is a bad day, just think of all the things you can do inside the home or office. The cosy nights watching a good film and making a hot toddy.

A very good uplifting drink for women is hot water, a slice or two of lemon and orange, a slice of ginger and a small spoon of honey. This can be drunk at any time of the day but is especially good first thing in the morning.

Eating lots of fatty foods in the winter is not a good idea, chose hot soups with lots of fresh vegetables and pasta dishes with some spice and herbs. Grilled Salmon with some broccoli with grated melted cheese on the top. Mushrooms grilled with a lentil soup. There are many recipes for winter meals and keeping a collecting in your kitchen is ideal.

Drink lots of orange juice or eat whole oranges, you can also make teas with a slice of orange and lemon in it. Experimenting is great int he winter.

Taking the heat out of summer

Summer is a great time of the year, however, it is also very important to take the sun seriously.

Today the sun is very powerful and can be dangerous, that is not to say that you can’t sit outside and take in those rays of vitamin D, but remember the old saying regarding early morning sun and staying out of it at the heat of the day – that would be around 12:00 – 16:00 hrs is very viable.

Taking a shower or a tepid bath is a lovely way to cool down after a day at the pool or beach. Remember to use a good moisturizer and sunscreen at all times.

Drinking lots of fluids is vital, our body needs to keep hydrated and especially in the summer if you are traveling to another country be sure to find out if the water is drinkable and buy some mineral water as soon as you arrive.

Learning more about hormones

Going in with your eyes wide open. If only that were a possibility, but most women who enter the menopause find themselves in the middle of nowhere, they are not ready for what is about to become their life for a while.

Many women at this age are still raising teenagers, taking care of elderly family members and at the same time taking care of a home. This lifestyle does, of course, put us under an enormous amount of stress and pressure. This can lead to sleepless nights, extreme tiredness and mood swings due to shifting hormones or better known as hormone imbalance.

A practical way to record your notes is to use a diary, chose something attractive that you will enjoy writing in.

Make note of your feelings, and any special thoughts you had that day, remember to write down 3 things that you were grateful for that day, this helps enormously with your mindset.

Make notes about what you did and relate to your feelings, then cross-check how you felt. Who you were with and what activities you did.

Turning Back the Clock

Don´t hind behind a mask. No matter your age, you are in fact beautiful.

The best advice for successful ageing seems to be to remain active both mentally and physically.

Research has shown that at any age the body continues to respond to the demands placed on it. For example, although some decline in muscle strength does occur over a lifetime, a sedentary lifestyle is more likely to cause muscle weakness than the natural effects of aging.

Those who regularly exercise retain enough strength to remain independent and mobile. Similarly, science has shown that regular mental stimulation can encourage the growth of dendrites in the brain.

Activities such as chess, completing the crossword in a daily newspaper, or even just keeping up with current affairs can all help to maintain an alert mind.

Women Wellness Thought for the Day

The difference between Progesterone and Progestins

Many physicians believe that synthetic progestins are the same as natural progesterone. This is a common and unfortunate misunderstanding.

Most doctors don´t have the time to keep up on the latest drug research, so they rely on pharmaceutical companies and their representatives for their information.

The pharmaceutical companies shave no interest in selling natural progesterone because they can´t patent it, so they have no interest in sponsoring research of passing on information about it.

This is a widespread misconception among the medical staff and physicians, that natural progesterone has the same side effects as the progestins – an error that is dramatically affecting ht health and well-being of millions of women worldwide.
